Title: Rockets' Red Glare
Author: magistrate ([personal profile] magibrain)
Wordcount: 6500.
Genre: Hurt/comfort, character study; gen with an edge of Diana/Christie
Summary: An accident at the 4th of July fireworks show opens up old wounds. (Or: In which Neal is evasive, Christie is tipsy, and Diana is more prickly than cuddly, but it works out, sort of, in the end.)

"You all right?" Diana asked.

Neal blinked at her, and said, more or less automatically, "Yeah. Why wouldn't I be?"

Diana gave him a look, and she was right: the question did kinda answer itself.

Title: Negative Space
Author: magistrate ([personal profile] magibrain)
Wordcount: 7500.
Genre: Vignettes, five-things-ish, character study, a brief dalliance with hurt/comfort.
Summary: Studies of things made notable by their absence, their unspokenness, the space left around them, or their invisibility.

The secret, Neal had learned, to making things look effortless was to put in more work than a sane person would ever dream of devoting to a skill. You just had to make sure to put in that work where no one could see you, and Neal had put a lot of work into cultivating the impression that his free time was spent sipping wine and preening on his balcony, rather than pouring sweat and blood into learning the skills that made him appear superhuman.
magibrain: Peter Burke would like to know where you are at all times. (White Collar)

Rating: PG

Word Count: 1600
Warnings/Spoilers: Through 2.09

Title: Copycat
Author: [personal profile] iamshadow
Fandom: White Collar
Pairings: Gen
Rating: PG
Word Count: 10,318 inc. footnotes
Summary: Peter busts into a dingy apartment, expecting to find the artist behind a forgery racket. That's exactly what he finds, but the artist in question isn't anything like the sort of person he expected to find, and rather than having answers, he's got a far bigger mystery to solve. An AU where things are very different, but the important things are the same.
Content: AU, kid!Neal, kid!Mozzie, child exploitation, mentions of child sexual assault and trafficking, not as dark as you'd think from those last few things.
A/N: This story started life as a fragment I wrote last year, just the first couple of scenes. I got as far as getting it betaed, and then promptly forgot it even existed. I rediscovered it in my Google Docs last week, and wham! 9,000+ word story.

The footnotes are long (hence them having to go in a post of their own) but full of information that might help the average reader understand references and issues that are only touched on in passing in the story itself. Trying to work them into the narrative would have been awkward and slowed things down, but I didn't want to leave those things hanging, as some of them are pretty obscure.

Many thanks, hugs, kisses and seasonal best wishes to [personal profile] tree00faery and [personal profile] copperbadge, who both put their hands up to beta for me, even though it's right in the middle of the stupid season.

For [community profile] month_of_meta I wrote up an examination of the way the women of white collar are written, and how the show deals with gendered tropes.

White Collar is one of my very favorite shows. And one the reasons I love it so much is its varied cast of interesting and awesome women characters. In this piece (one couldn't really call it an essay), I'll discuss how the women of White Collar are written as individuals as well as the way the writers address gendered tropes. Expect this to spoil all the way through the end of season three.
